Originally hailing from Hong Kong, Tokyo-based multimedia artist and musician Ivan Kwong expanded his role as a guitarist and visual director to bring his distinct artistic visual style into works on canvas, paper, found objects, and clothing in 2020. Also sometimes working under the pseudonym Suji, he uses a wide variety of materials and intuitive mark making to bring the feelings experienced through the cross-cultural nature of day-to-day life and personal identity felt in the immediate moment to the surface.
GALLERY ETHER is excited to announce THE START / THE END, a new solo-exhibition from Tokyo-based multimedia artist and musician Ivan Kwong, to be held from Saturday, February 11th through Friday, March 3rd.
In his all new solo-exhibition, THE START / THE END, Ivan Kwong explores the fleeting nature and duality of life, where everything that exists must not only have a beginning, but must also eventually meet its conclusion. With the idea of us as human beings being the product of miracles that exist in perfect timing to sense, experience, and feel as we move throughout life, the artist manifests a new body of work representing the important chapters of life that make us who we are. Some can be places, others people, or even just simple coincidences, they act as “HIKARI”, or light, to guide and shape us. It’s our ability to appreciate each moment as its own miracle that defines us.
