Exhibitions

GALLERY ETHER is excited to announce PRIMA DI METTERE IN MOTO, DATE IL SEGNALE., a new exhibition showcasing the experimental and collaborative works of Italian collectives Libri Finti Clandestini and 5X Letterpress.

Libri Finti Clandestini

Libri Finti Clandestini is a cosmopolitan collective that works with the aim of creating experimental editorial products using paper scraps, typography, printing laboratories, and abandoned warehouses. LFC patiently assembles books and sketchbooks one by one. Each one is hand-bound, stamped, numbered, and ready for writing, drawing, or taking on any other meaning the owner wants to give them. The collective focuses on the production of books in single copy and very small pop-up editions in which bizarre characters from the late 19th / early 20th century imagery move and come to life when the pages are opened.

Through the dedication of time and attention to the research of materials, over the years the project has expanded in other artistic directions in addition to the editorial one, always under the banner of experimentation, investigating fields of photography, typographic printing and urban exploration.

5X Letterpress

Born in 2018, 5X Letterpress is a duo of graphic designers and subversive printmakers. They produce prints exclusively by hand using old printing presses, movable type, and every surface that can be inked and pressed. 5X Letterpress has no limits for their experimentation and research in graphic design. All the typographic material and not (movable type, paper, ink, stereoplate and various other print plates) come from old printing workshops or have been recovered in flea markets.

In recent years the two projects mentioned above have begun a collaboration relating to typographic printing, self-publishing and visual experimentation, designing and creating by hand editorial products and posters in limited editions or single copies.

"Working on a book in one night, on a train, in an abandoned factory, with unusual tools, exploring the forgotten places of the urban landscape". So, this has always been the group's mission: to produce in "crazy" situations, trying new solutions every time and trying to obtain the best result.”

PRIMA DI METTERE IN MOTO, DATE IL SEGNALE.

In PRIMA DI METTERE IN MOTO, DATE IL SEGNALE. the two projects have worked collaboratively to produce a collection of typographic prints, visual experimentations, with self-published handmade books and posters in limited editions or unique single copies. Their experimental approaches include projects such as creating books in one night, on a train, in an abandoned factory, with unusual tools, while exploring the abandoned and forgotten places of the urban landscape. The group's mission has always been to produce in "crazy" situations, trying new solutions every time, and trying to obtain the best result.

The exhibition title PRIMA DI METTERE IN MOTO, DATE IL SEGNALE. translates into English as “Before starting the engine, give the signal.” and is meant to serve as a motto and a call to action, highlighting that brief moment of stillness before the rush into the unknown.
